DAWSON, Alfred Edward, Sto 1c, V14825, RCNVR, killed - 08 Aug 1944, HMCS REGINA - Son of Alfred and Alice Maude Dawson. Husband of Elizabeth M. Dawson, of Vancouver, British Columbia.
Stoker Alfred Edward Dawson age 31 was born in London, England, and came to Saskatoon with his family in 1922. He came to Vancouver in 1937 and was a night foreman at Continental Fruit before enlisting in 1941. He served on two other navy vessels, before going to HMCS REGINA in April 1943. He is the father of twin children Elaine, 6 and Robert, 8. His mother, Mrs. Seager lives at 700 Richards, Vancouver, British Columbia.
Stoker Dawson died when HMCS REGINA was torpedoed and sunk off Trevose Head, Cornwall, England by U-667 while she was aiding a merchant vessel in distress. Thirty of her crew were lost. The body of Stoker Dawson washed ashore near Bude, Cornwall, England. He was buried in the St. Neot Churchyard Cemetery, Poundstock, Cornwall, England.
