They made the Ultimate Sacrifice
LUSTY, Frank Oswald, AB AAIII, V31008, RCNVR, MPK - 08 Aug 1944, HMCS REGINA - Son of Frank George and Dorothy Gladys Lusty, of Toronto, Ontario.
Able Seaman Frank Oswald Lusty is the second member of the family to be reported missing in two months, is brother Pte. Cyril Lusty was reported missing in Italy in June 1944, but later it was discovered he had been taken prisoner by the Nazis and escaped after a week in captivity. Able Seaman Lusty was born in Toronto and attended Palmerston Avenue School and Central Tech. He was an apprentice mechanic at the time of his enlistment on March 17, 1942. After his training at HMCS YORK and at Halifax, he processed overseas in November the same year and was on convoy duty aboard HMCS RESTIGOUCHE for a year before his transfer to HMCS REGINA recently. His parents Mr. and Mrs. F. G. Lusty reside on Albany Avenue, Toronto.
Prior to joining the Navy, Frank Lusty served in the 2nd Field Company, RCE (R). Canadian Army as a Sapper from 28 Mar 1941 to 16 Mar 1942.
HMCS REGINA was lost 08 Aug 1944, when she was torpedoed off Trevose Head, Cornwall, by U-667 while going to the assistance of a merchant vessel in difficulties. Thirty of her crew were lost.
