HOWARD, David Ewart - Past Commodore the Royal Canadian Yacht Club, Past President the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, Lieutenant (N) Royal Canadian Naval Volunteer Reserve. He lived life to the fullest and he loved life. His inquisitive mind and relentless energy allowed him to be many things and although he had no formal qualification for many of them, he didn't let that stop him. He was: a businessman; lawyer; teacher; poet; sailor; carpenter; seaman; musician; leader; philanthropist; banker; golfer; investor; developer; negotiator; navigator; captain; sportsman; Olympian; architect; designer; coach; storyteller; arbitrator; inventor; craftsman; tinkerer; builder. While always: a gentleman, son, brother, husband, father, uncle, grandfather, great grandfather and, most importantly, a friend. Recently, he was looking forward to starring in one of his favourite poems: 'Sometime at eve when the tide is low, I shall slip my moorings and sail away. Through purple shadows that darkly trail O'er the ebbing tide of the unknown sea, And a ripple of waters to tell the tale Of a lonely voyager, sailing away To mystic isles, where at anchor lay The craft of those who had sailed before O'er the unknown sea to the unknown shore.' We would like to thank the following outstanding caregivers for their dedicated support to a difficult task where sometimes even six was not enough: Ani, Alice, Maria, Gemma, Rio, Bernadette (The Globe and Mail 25 Jan 2023)
