They made the Ultimate Sacrifice
HAMILTON, William Couttie OS, V22707, RCNVR MPK - 07 Sep 1942, HMCS RACCOON - Son of William Couttie Hamilton and Roseanna Hamilton, of Toronto, Ontario.
Ordinary Seaman William Hamilton, Crawford St., enlisted as soon as his age permitted. "In fact, he exaggerated his age slightly so as there would be no danger of being turned down," said his mother, Mrs. Rosenna Hamilton. "He is only 20 now and he has been on active service since January, 1941. "In order to fit himself for the navy, he worked on an oil tanker for six months prior to enlistment. He was home on two weeks furlough, leaving to rejoin his ship just four weeks ago Sunday. I haven't heard from him since," his mother said. William Hamilton is one of two sons of Mr. and Mrs. William Hamilton. The other son, Pte. Miller Hamilton of the Royal Regiment was wounded at Dieppe. There are also two daughters in the family. Both married, they are Mrs. James Ironside (Jeanette) and Mrs. Leslie Stroud (Jessie).
