McLEAN, Charles Robert - was born in 1924 in Saint John. After graduating from high school, he worked at the Bank of Nova Scotia until he enlisted in the Royal Canadian Navy in 1943.
Bob served on several Corvettes during the Battle of the Atlantic, often sailing from Halifax to Londonderry, Ireland. His ship took part in the D-Day landing. Bob was discharged from the RCN in October 1945.
After the war Bob attended Dalhousie School of Pharmacy. He owned and operated several drug stores in Saint John, including McLean's Pharmacy in Kingshurst and later McLean Matthews in the Fairview Plaza. Bob brought the first Shoppers Drug Mart to Saint John
Bob was President of the N.B. Pharmaceutical Association and later the President of the Canadian Pharmaceutical Association in 1965. He was a member of the Saint Andrew’s Society, the Renforth Lion's Club, the Renforth Boat Club, the Cliff Club, and the Byng Boys.
Bob died in 1998 and is buried in Fernhill Cemetery.
