MCDONALD, John Hugh, AB, V26258, RCNVR, MPK - 07 Sep 1942, HMCS RACCOON - Son of Angus L. and Esther MacDonald, of New Victoria, Nova Scotia.
Prior to joining the Navy, John worked as a miner. He also served in the 2nd Battallion North Nova Scotia Highlanders (non-permanent active militia) from 22 Nov 1940 - 21 Dec 1940.
AB McDonald died when his ship, HMCS RACCOON, which was on convoy escort in the St. Lawrence River off the Gaspé Peninsula, was hit and sunk by two torpedoes from U165. All 37 hands were lost.
