They made the Ultimate Sacrifice
MULLER, Howard Joseph, L/Sto (M), V18431, RCNVR, MPK - 07 Sep 1942, HMCS RACCOON - Son of George W. and Mary E. Muller, of Kingston, Ontario. Brother of Lieutenant Kenneth George Muller, who died during service with the Royal Regiment of Canada, R.C.I.C.
L/Sto Muller died when his ship, HMCS RACCOON, which was on convoy escort in the St. Lawrence River off the Gaspé Peninsula, was hit and sunk by two torpedoes from U165. All 37 hands were lost.
Note: the (M) for L/Sto (M) indicates he passed the Auxiliary Machinery Watchkeeping course for Stoker Ratings.

** There are a large number of discrepancies between L/Sto Muller's Record of Service, Certificate of Service and Conduct sheet. As the conduct sheet was his assessment at each unit - it makes sense that the person doing the assessment knew when he was there so it was used as the basis for his list of ships served in.
