SMITH, John Norman, LCdr, RCNR, MPK - 07 Sep 1942, HMCS RACCOON - Son of Frederick Hugh Smith, and of Alice Smith, of Bristol; husband of Dorothy S. Smith, of Halifax, Nova Scotia.

 

LCdr Smith died when his ship, HMCS RACCOON, of which he was the Commanding Officer, was on convoy escort in the St. Lawrence River off the Gaspé Peninsula and was hit and sunk by two torpedoes from U165. All 37 hands were lost.
