George enlisted in the RCNVR in 1942 and after training as a Telegraphist served briefly on the west coast then was drafted to STONE TOWN where he spend the rest of the war.

During this convoy, U-225, initially discovered by an aircraft, surrendered to HMCS STONE TOWN before being turned over to British warships and then STONE TOWN continued on as SO of her Escort Group for Convoy ONS.50
