MCCLELLAN, John Forbes, AB, 4612, RCN, MPK - 06 Feb 1943, HMCS LOUISBURG - Son of John Fraser and Alice Elaine McClellan, of Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan.
AB McClellan died when his ship, HMCS LOUISBURG, which was on convoy duty in the Mediterranean, was sunk by bombs and torpedoes from Italian aircraft.
Able Seaman John Forbes McClellan was born in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan and was the son of John Fraser and Alice Elaine McClellan. John Jr. was a student when he enlisted on July 15, 1941 as a boy seaman at HMCS Queen, Regina, Saskatchewan. He trained at Cornwallis Barracks; the 19 year old seaman was to marry Miss Madeline Clergy, Agricola Street, on his return to Halifax. Miss Clergy learned of his death when she read a newspaper list of those who lost their lives in the Mediterranean sinking.
