In memory of those who have Crossed the Bar
CASTLEMAN, David Hugh - Passed away February 9, 2017 in his 94th year. David will be missed and lovingly remembered by his wife Eileen (nee Elias); daughter Julie; son-in-law James; and cherished grandchildren Jacobus, Jeremy and Jillianna (Voorneveld). He was predeceased by his sons David John and Peter. Dave lived his life with faith, loyalty and integrity. A true gentleman, he endeared himself to others readily with his friendly disposition and kind, courteous manner. Dave retired in 1995 from the Department of National Defence after a long career as a Professional Engineer, specializing in military naval radar systems. In retirement, he volunteered his time to a number of organizations in the Gatineau Hills, where he lived for over 50 years, including St. Mary Magdalene Anglican Church, QUAIL and the Gatineau Valley Historical Society. Dave was a polio survivor, having contracted it as a Naval Reservist deployed to the Panama canal in 1954. In his later years, he endured the painful, debilitating effects of the disease with courage and determination. The family wishes to thank the wonderful staff of the CHSLD/nursing home in Masham for their kindness and care of David in his last months, as well as the caregivers and CLSC nurses that cared for him while at home. A Remembrance Service will be held on Saturday, March 25, 2017 at 2:30 p.m. at St. Mary Magdalene Anglican Church, Chelsea, QC. Those wishing to make a donation in David's name, please consider the Des Collines Health Foundation. (The Ottawa Citizen 18 Feb 2023)
