SKEARD, Louis (Lou) - 80 Sydney Mark Louis "Lou" Skeard, Kings Road, Howie Centre, passed away at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, on Thursday, Dec. 27, 2001. Born in Port aux Basques, Nfld., he was the son of the late John and Dinah (Campbell) Skeard. A veteran of Second World War, Lou served with the Merchant Marines and the Navy and was a lifetime member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 138. He was an instructor with the sea cadets for more than 12 years and was retired from the Sydney Steel Plant. Lou was a member of the Cape Breton Christian Fellowship Church
.Surviving are his wife, Freda (Keeping); daughters, Charelene (Leroy) Petrie, Coxheath, Linda (Bob) Ryan, Halifax, and Barbara (Maurice) Tobin, Howie Centre; sisters, Katie Clarke and Alice Quinn, Newfoundland, and Rhoda Laform, Ontario; five grandchildren, Jason, Mark, Scott, Robert and Liana; and six great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by sisters, Susan and Maize and brothers, Enos, Victor, Tom, Bill, Jim and Freeman. Visitation will be held at Sydney Memorial Chapel, Saturday, Dec. 29, 2001, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A funeral service will be held in the chapel, Sunday, Dec. 30 at 2 p.m. with Pastor Kevin Mattatall officiating. Interment in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens, Monday for immediate family. Memorial donations may be made to the Christian Fellowship Church Building Fund.
