In memory of those who have Crossed the Bar
HOPKINS, Charles William Roland - It is with heartbreak our family announces the sudden passing of our Dad, Charles Hopkins, 81. Husband of 54 years to Ruby Hopkins, who was the love of his life. He passed on February 7, 2023 in Dartmouth. He will be remembered and missed by his wife, Ruby, and children, Kathy Power (Scott), Shelley, Shawn and three grandchildren, Rebecca, Brent and Selena. Along with a large extended family and many friends.
Charlie lived a life of adventure. He was a proud veteran of the Royal Canadian Navy, and loved to share those stories.
He spent 25 years, as a Millwright, at Moirs chocolate factory, and was remembered fondly after his retirement. As kids, we would pop by the factory with friends and our Dad would hand out a chocolate or two.
Born and raised in Green's Harbour Newfoundland, he loved "the rock" dearly, even having lived in NS for 60 years. Newfoundland was home and he went every chance he got, and it will be his final resting place. He loved Newfie music, culture and made the best pea soup.
He was a family man, who loved family gatherings and a house full of people. He was never happier than when socializing and chatting. He'd talk to anyone, and loved to share a good laugh. His sense of humor was intact to the end, even with his doctors and the nursing team at the Dartmouth General Hospital. All of whom we wish to thank for the kindness and care they showed our Dad.
He adored his grandchildren, and beamed with pride for them all. He loved to spoil them and took pride in their accomplishments.
If you knew our Dad, you know he had a gift to gab, knew his own mind, and offered a cup of tea when you came through the door. He loved his house in Eastern Passage; being near the water gave him the feeling of Newfoundland. He loved working in the yard, feeding the birds, tinkering in the garage, playing guitar, baking and playing a game of yahtzee.
He will be missed by all who had the pleasure to know him, but most especially by his loving family. We love you Dad.
