In memory of those who have Crossed the Bar
LIPTON, David Barry - It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of David Barry Lipton, father, grandfather, brother and friend.
Barry was raised in a large and loving family in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. After graduating from high school, he served in HMCS TERRA NOVA and later pursued a long and impressive career in sales.
Barry had an absolute passion for nature and the outdoors. He loved to hunt, fish, swim, ski, camp and hike. He especially loved to canoe. He felt a sense of peace when he was surrounded by nature. He spent considerable time in his teenage years in Bear River, a place very close to his heart. He also enjoyed spending time over the years with his loved ones at the family cottage in Medford Beach.
He loved sports and played hockey, baseball and golf in his youth. He loved to play crib with family members.
He had a brilliant mind and a wicked sense of humour.
He was devoted to the catholic church and was deeply spiritual. His faith carried him through many challenges in his life. Those who knew him well were aware of the enormity of the barriers and challenges that he faced and overcame. He created a life for himself that was filled with faith, gratitude and love for his family and friends. It was also a life that gave him peace and meaning. He always tried to focus on the positive and to be grateful for the blessings in his life.
In his later years, Barry focussed on serving others. He did extensive volunteer work with the Canadian Institute for the Blind which was recognized by the media. He volunteered with both the Salvation Army and the Red Cross and supported the Diabetes Association. He purchased and donated items for local shelters and sponsored children in third world countries.
He leaves behind his loving daughter, Terri (Ken) and son, Jeff (Kristy) and the grandchildren he adored, Bryce and David. He was predeceased by his parents John (CPO John Lipton, RCN) and Jean Lipton and by his brothers Richard (Sheila) and Brian (Karen). He leaves behind his sister Carolyn (Jim) and his brothers John (Corinne) and Mark (Kelly).
Barry lived in Fredericton for the last 35 years of his life and had many close friends and neighbours during that time. In particular, he leaves behind his great friends Gordon Hughes and Kenny Duke.
A special thank you to Gordon Hughes. He has been one of his dearest and oldest friends. Despite having his own health issues, he visited Barry in the hospital every day until the end. He has been a tremendous support to Barry and to the family for 35 years.
Also a special thank you to Barry’s brother, John Jr. and his wife Corinne who have always loved and supported Barry. They stayed connected to him throughout his life and helped him during some very challenging times. Much love and appreciation for everything they have done for Barry and the family.

Donations in lieu of flowers can be made to the Diabetes Association. Funeral mass will be celebrated 11:00 a.m. Monday, February 20, 2023 at Saint Clements Roman Catholic Church, 16 Gaston Road, Dartmouth. (Dartmouth Funeral Home)
