They made the Ultimate Sacrifice
ZBARSKY, Ralph, AB, V37720, RCNVR, killed - 16 Apr 1945, HMCS ESQUIMALT - Son of Jack and Ethel Zbarsky, of Vancouver.
AB Zbarsky died when his ship, HMCS ESQUIMALT, was torpedoed and sunk by U-190 off the approaches to Halifax harbour. His body was recovered and he was buried in the Schara Tzedeck Cemetery, New Westminster, BC.
Able Seaman Ralph Zbarsky of Saskatoon was the son of Jack and Ethel Zbarsky who came to Saskatoon from New York and retired to Vancouver during the war. Ralph was from Saskatoon, attended Princess Alexandra and Victoria schools and Bedford Road collegiate, and was a student at the University of Saskatchewan when he enlisted in Saskatoon on April 27, 1942.
