In memory of those who have Crossed the Bar
ALEXANDER, Walter Gilchrist - It is with deep sadness that we announce the death of Walter Gilchrist Alexander on April 15, 2001 at the age of 83 years at the Health Sciences Center. Predeceased by his second wife, Edna, in 1997, Walter is survived by his five children, numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and three stepdaughters. Walter was born April 9, 1918 in Stonewall, Manitoba. He worked for the T. Eaton Co., before joining the Navy in 1940. Later he started his own Painting and Decorating business. After the war, Walter joined No. 4 Legion and went on to become a Life Member. A real sportsman, Walter hunted, fished, golfed and bowled. Walter was a very outgoing person and his presence will be felt for a long time to come. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, April 19 at 1:00 p.m. in the Leatherdale Gardiner Funeral Chapel, 1858 Portage Avenue. Walters family would like to thank Health Sciences Centre for their professional and tentative care. Should friends so desire, donations in Walters memory may be made to the Kidney Foundation, 200-55 Donald St. Wpg. MB R3C 1L8. (The Winnipeg Free Press 17 Apr 2001)
