George William Tebbenham

Died: 07 Nov 2007, Thunder Bay, Ontario

 

TEBBENHAM, George William (Bill) - age 90, a resident of Egan Street and most recently the Waldorf in Thunder Bay, passed away peacefully at St. Joseph's Hospital on November 7, 2007. Born in Fort William on September 26, 1917, Bill's employment began as a Butcher at Eaton's Groceteria and then as a Grain Inspector with the Canadian Grain Commission until his retirement. Bill proudly served with the Royal Canadian Navy in WWII. He maintained a passion for the Navy until his passing. His main interests were his family, gardening, curling and travel having spent several winters in Arizona. Bill is survived by his wife of 64 years Doris (nee Ralph), son Bill (Cathy) Tebbenham, daughter Percy (Brent) Sutton, grandchildren Tyler and Troy (Tracey) Tebbenham, Danielle and Michelle (Sebastian) Sutton, great grandchildren Ben and Graham Tebbenham as well as by numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. Bill was predeceased by his parents Elizabeth and Albert, sisters Mary (Joe) Winterburn, Dolly (Albert) Foulds and brother Bert Tebbenham. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 14, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. in the Sargent & Son Funeral Chapel, 21 N. Court Street, with Rev. David Silliman of Knox United Church presiding. The members of the Royal Canadian Naval Association will hold their service of tribute in conjunction with the funeral service. Interment will take place at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Visitation for friends will be from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday November 13th in the Sargent & Son Chapel. In lieu of flowers the family request that donations be made to the Thunder Bay Naval Heritage Fund or the Branch #5 Building Fund. (Sargent & Son Funeral Chapel)

 

George's brother Albert Edward (Bert) Tebbenham also served in the RCNVR during the Second World War.
