ANDERSON, John, Steward, V13860, RCNVR, MPK - 10 Feb 1942, HMCS SPIKENARD - Son of Simon Christian and Gonda Anderson, of Eckville, Alberta.
Steward Anderson died when his ship, HMCS SPIKENARD, was torpedoed and sunk by U-136, about 465 nautical miles west of Malin Head, Ireland while escorting convoy SC-67. Of her crew of 65, there were only 8 survivors. Prior to joining the Navy John served in the Royal Canadian Engineers from 18 Aug 1940 to 05 Nov 1940.
John's brothers, William, Charly and Carl all served in the RCAF during the Second World War.
