In memory of those who have Crossed the Bar
LAVOIE, Gerard (Gerry) - Passed peacefully on March 10, 2023, in Dartmouth General Hospital surrounded by the people he loved most. He was 81. He has left a lifetime of beautiful memories for his wife of 57 years, Francoise; daughters, Sylvie (Scott Stevens); Nathalie, and grandpuppy Murphy, whom he adored. Gerry or ‘The Chief’ was born in Charlemagne, Que., in July 1941, to Edouard and Irene (Houle) Lavoie. He loved and was loved fiercely in return by siblings, Denis (Diane), Jeanne-D'Arc (Nelson), Claude (Aurore), Francine (Guy), Carmen (Michel), Alain (Germaine) Johanne (Jean-Marc) and Daniel (Nicole); and a large extended family. Gerry served as a cook in the Canadian Forces for 33 years at bases in Nunavut, Quebec, British Columbia, Nova Scotia, France and Germany and aboard HMCS SKEENA. He was a mentor to countless sailors and soldiers that crossed the threshold of his kitchens. He was a proud Veteran. The family expresses their gratitude to Jet Rescue and the caring professionals in Dartmouth General Hospital who made his final days peaceful. A Celebration of Life will take place on March 22, 2023, at the Royal Canadian Legion, 703 Main St., Dartmouth from 2-5 p.m. No flowers by request; instead please consider a donation to the Dartmouth General Hospital Foundation or charity of one’s choice.
