GILBOE, Arthur Francis, AB, V19071, RCNVR, MPK - 10 Feb 1942, HMCS SPIKENARD - Son of Arthur J. and Harriet Grace Gilboe, Windsor, Ontario; nephew of Mrs. H. Lesperance, of Windsor, Ontario.

 

AB Gilboe died when his ship, HMCS SPIKENARD, was torpedoed and sunk by U-136, about 465 nautical miles west of Malin Head, Ireland while escorting convoy SC-67. Of her crew of 65, there were only 8 survivors.

 

Arthur Francis Gilboe was born at Windsor, Ontario, on February 15, 1920. He received his education at St. Francis School and Assumption College, Windsor, Ontario. Able Seaman Gilboe is survived by his mother, Mrs. A. J. Gilboe, and an aunt, Mrs. H. Lesperance, both of Windsor, Ontario.
