They made the Ultimate Sacrifice
JORDAN, Donald, AB, V19161, RCNVR, MPK - 10 Feb 1942, HMCS SPIKENARD - Son of Richard and Nina Jordan, of Windsor, Ontario.
AB Jordan died when his ship, HMCS SPIKENARD, was torpedoed and sunk by U-136, about 465 nautical miles west of Malin Head, Ireland while escorting convoy SC-67. Of her crew of 65, there were only 8 survivors.
Donald Jordan was born at Montreal on 13 Aug 1920. He was educated at Hugh Beaton, Walkerville and Windsor Vocational Schools, taking a curse in electronics. He joined the Navy on 11 Nov 1940, at Windsor. Previously he served in the Essex Tank, and Royal Signal Corps. In the summer of 1940 he served as a Life Guard at East Windsor Beach, and was also a member of the YMCA. Seaman Jordan was a member of the crew of HMCS Spikenard, which was sunk by enemy action. He was not married and is survived by his father, Mr. Richard Jordan of Windsor, Ont.
