In memory of those who have Crossed the Bar
KNOWLES, Stanley William (Stan) - Peacefully at home after a well fought battle with cancer on Friday, August 23, 2002 in his 78th year. Predeceased by mother Florence Duchien and father Joseph Knowles of Wolverhampton, U.K. To cherish his memory, Stan leaves his beloved wife Barbara Ellen (Sam), his extended family; Darrell and Vivian McCagg, Rick and Margaret McCagg and special niece Laura Andrews. Proud grandfather to Dana, Crystal, Erin and Kevin McCagg. Stan leaves his sister Joyce and brother Grenville and many nieces and nephews (little Gren) and grandnieces and grandnephews in the U.K. Stan went to sea at an early age first with H.M. Royal Navy, and later with H.M. Royal Canadian Navy, serving in both WWII and the Korean War. Following this, Stan spent many years with D.N.D. and ended his working career as a Director of Boeing of Canada (Arnprior Division). Stan (the man with the Tilley Hat) will be fondly remembered by all who knew and loved him for his infectious smile, his wink of the eye and his dry "Brit Wit". Stan fulfilled his wish to die at home thanks to the combined efforts of the following (but not limited to); Dr. Margaret Farncombe and her special nurse; Eileen, of the Palliative Care Outreach Program, the V.O.N. nurses who visited constantly, Sue Graham of the C.C.A.C., the nurses of Central Health Care, and his many friends who visited or always inquired of his health (you know who you are). Friends may call at the Garden Chapel of Tubman Funeral Homes, 3440 Richmond Road (between Baseline and Bayshore Drive) on Saturday, August 31st from 2 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. A celebration of Stan's life will be held in the chapel at 4:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers donations to the "Adopt-a-Nurse" program of the Palliative Care Outreach Program, the V.O.N., the C.C.A.C. or a charity of your choice would be appreciated.
