In memory of those who have Crossed the Bar
BEZPALKO, Emil - It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Emil Bezpalko, on Tuesday, March 5, 2002 at the St. Boniface Hospital at the age of 85 years. He died with his family at his side. Emil will be lovingly remembered by his wife Sally of 61 years; brother Louis (Diane) Bowers; sister Bertha Heron; nephews, Ken Bowers and Ron Heron and great-nephew Kevin Bowers, family and friends. He was predeceased by his brother-in-law Jack Heron and mother-in-law Mary Kulbaba. Emil was born in Winnipeg, MB and joined the Navy in 1941, where he was an active member for one year. On November 8, 1944, Emil became employed by the CNR and retired as an engineer on July 3, 1981. He was a member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers. Emil served as treasurer of the St. Johns Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Stead, MB for many years. During his life, Emil and Sally traveled widely including numerous trips to Hawaii and Europe. He enjoyed quiet times at their cottage in Stead, MB. Even in his last moments, Emil displayed strength and determination, which had been his hallmark throughout life. His family will always remember him as a caring and gentle man who showed his love through the countless things he did for them. He always had a kind word and smile for those he met, treated everyone with respect and took all the life's joys and challenges without complaint. The family extends warmest appreciation to the staff of the St. Boniface Hospital for their kind and compassionate care especially to the Dialysis Unit, 4th Floor, Dr. Verreilli and Dr. Henry were particularly supportive and understanding in these difficult times. Prayers will be held on Friday, March 8 at 7:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, March 9 at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Trinity Cathedral (Ukrainian Orthodox), 1175 Main St., Winnipeg. Interment will follow in Glen Eden Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers include Kenny Kulbaba, Allan Hastman, Randy Mabb, Donald Mabb, Kevin Bowers, and Helmut Kihn. Honorary pallbearers, Ken Bowers and John Malyna. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Emils memory to the Kidney Foundation of Canada, 200-55 Donald St., Winnipeg, R3C 1L8. A heart of gold stopped beating, Hard working hands went to rest, God took you home to prove to us He only takes the best. You lived your life for those you loved, And those you love will remember.
