GUY, George Harrington - George passed away peacefully days before his 90th birthday. He was predeceased by his parents, Margaret (Peggy) and Harrington (Harry) Guy; and survived by his younger brother, Jim (Mary). Beloved husband of 56 years to Beverly (Ross); father of Jennifer Eastman (Larry and son Sam), Sheila McCracken (David), David (Philippa); and predeceased by his youngest son, Geoffrey (Marin). George also leaves behind his much-loved grandchildren Rebecca, Connor, Will, Olivia and Charlie. George attended St. Andrew's College in Aurora where he graduated in 1951. Those years at SAC were full of fond memories of cadets, football and his time in boarding. He attended Trinity College at the University of Toronto where he developed many long-term friendships at Phi Delta fraternity. In the summers he proudly served in the Canadian Navy on the frigate Swansea. George was one of the early graduates from the Western Richard Ivey School of Business where he earned an MBA in 1957. Upon graduation, George entered the investment business and embarked on a successful 40-year career with Dominion Securities, initially as a retail Branch Manager in Brantford and Kitchener moving to Toronto in 1968 as Director of National Sales and finally heading up the Syndication department. George retired as an RBC Director and Vice President in 1987. While attending U of T, George was invited to a dinner by Donald and Jean Ross where he met his future wife Beverly. As he often recalled 'it was love at first sight' and this culminated in a 56-year marriage until her passing in 2013. He passed away on what would have been their 66th wedding anniversary. Bev and George and the four kids spent summers at the family cottage on Sydenham Lake. They were active members of the Badminton & Racquet Club and Toronto Golf Club. George and Bev were longstanding members of the Caledon Ski Club where they both participated in the adult racing program. George happily accepted his runner up position to Bev's winning runs. Upon his retirement, George divided his time between Toronto, the family cottage at Sydenham Lake and Wyndemere Golf Club in Naples Florida. These homes created lasting memories for family and a community of friends. George was an avid golfer. This passion took him and Bev around the world with particular fondness of the Loch Lomond Golf Club in Scotland. He was proud to be The Toronto Hunt Club Sr. Club Champion in 1993, 1994 and 1996. George and Bev loved taking the family on a number of spectacular family trips to Scotland, France, New York and Alaska The family will always have wonderful memories of Christmases spent at the Coral Beach Club in Bermuda. George loved nothing more than being with family, which includes brother-in-laws, David and Nick Ross; and their wives, Cathie and Lynn. He welcomed his daughters-in-laws and son-in-laws into the family with open arms, and he cherished the bonds with his grandchildren. He was a regular host and chef for his 'world famous' pancake breakfasts. George was a wonderful father, a gentleman, loyal, steadfast and generous beyond measure to his four children, Jennifer, Sheila, David and Geoffrey. He will be deeply missed. The family cannot give enough thanks to our wonderful caregivers. Connie Tillo and Adrianna Cabato who have been a part of the Guy family for over 30 years providing love and support. Recently, Romeo and Joma were added to the team and were exceptional making Dad happy and comfortable at The Claremont. We would also like to acknowledge the wonderful care of the staff at The Claremont. A private family service will be held. (The Globe and Mail 13 May 2023)
