OBERSKI, Bruno Stephan - Unexpectedly on Tuesday, May 16, 2023, Bruno Oberski passed away at Joseph Brant Hospital, Burlington, in his 93rd year. Beloved husband of Betty (nee Hewison) for 36 years. Loving father of Stephen (Marlene Stubbs), John, Paul, David, Debby James and Andrew James.
Grandfather of Tabatha and Dalton, Kandy and Krystal. Survived by his sisters Stef Peycha (late Chester) and Toni Cavar (Joe). Predeceased by his sister Irene Sadkowski (late Marion) and brothers Chester (late Helen) and Gus (late Betty). Fondly remembered by his many nieces and nephews.
Bruno was born to Polish immigrant parents Jan and Wictoria Oberski in Edmonton, and grew up in Brantford. He joined the navy, Skeena division, and worked on the DEW line in Churchill, Manitoba the early 50's, intercepting Soviet Morse code messages. After leaving the military he worked in the insurance industry, based in various places throughout Ontario: Ottawa, Tillsonburg, London, Burlington. He eventually became VP at CUMIS Insurance. Before retiring Bruno was branch manager with CUMIS in London. Bruno loved politics, and ran as the local Libertarian candidate in the 1980 federal election. He also enjoyed SCUBA diving, building and renovating, and relished a new challenge. In retirement he and Betty travelled, he doted on the grandchildren and became interested in computers.
Friends are invited to visit with the family at Kitching, Steepe & Ludwig Funeral Home, 146 Mill St, N., Waterdown on Monday, May 29, 2023 from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Cremation has taken place.
