LS De Armond died when his ship, HMCS ATHABASKAN G07, was sunk in the English Channel on April 29, 1944. The province of Saskatchewan honoured Leading Seaman De Armond by naming De Armond Lake in his honour.
Leading Seaman Gordon Lee De Armond of Saskatoon was the son of John James and Mary P. De Armond who came from Belmont, Nova Scotia, to Saskatchewan southeast of Beechy in 1908, moving to Prince Albert in 1929.
