FAIRWEATHER, Finlay James - It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Jim in the early hours of December 31, 2007 at Langley B.C. General Hospital. Finlay James Fairweather was born on August 28, 1918 in Allan, SK, to Finlay Ross and Helen Murray (Hood) Fairweather. He is survived by his siblings, sisters, Anne Fairweather Dyson, Mary Waldner-Knapp, Helen Koleada (Nick) in Saskatoon, and Grace Prochaska (Michael) Roseburg, Oregon; brothers, Gordon Fairweather (Lorna) Saskatoon and William Fairweather, Ottawa, Ontario. Jim is also survived by many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. Jim was very dear to his niece, Lori (Greg) Cross and girls Brenda (Nick) and Bethany of Abbotsford, B.C. who were continually in touch with him and also visited regularly while he was in hospital. Also we recognize with thanks the care which was given to Jim by his in-laws, Valarie and Bruce MacIntosh and family. Many thanks to Jim's sister-in-law Anne Wooltorton (Eric) Saskatoon, who faithfully telephoned Jim every Sunday for years to see how he was. Jim was predeceased by his parents and his wife, Mary. Jim spent a few years attending public school in Unity and the family moved to Saskatoon in 1928 at which time he went to Thornton and Buena Vista Schools. He attended the Saskatoon Technical Institute and in 1939 he joined the Royal Canadian Navy and the Royal Navy. In 1944 his ship the HMS Nabob was torpedoed. He was injured and sent to Goose Bay Labrador hospital to recuperate. He was honourably discharged in October 1945. He moved to Vancouver and worked for Mac and Mac Hardware and was a Commissionaire for Wood Gundy until retirement. Cremation. There will be a Memorial Service and Interment at St. David's Anglican Church, Vancouver, at a later date.
