WHITEHEAD, Betty Lou Edith (née HILTZ) - 86, of Grand View Manor, Berwick, formerly of Quispamsis, NB, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 10, 2023 in Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville, surrounded by family and dear friends. Born in Fraxville, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Kathleen (Turner) Hiltz and the last surviving member of her immediate family.

 

Betty served with WREN (Women’s Royal Naval Service) until becoming a mother. She graduated from Business College and worked in accounting for the remainder of her career. She was a previous executive member of the Kennebecasis Royal Canadian Legion Branch 58 and a very active parishioner of St. Augustine Anglican Church, Quispamsis, NB. She loved quilting and above all, loved spending quality time with her children, grandchildren and friends.

 

Betty will be deeply missed by her daughter, Darlene Green (Steven Joudrey); son, Wayne (Lisa) Whitehead; natural and adopted grandchildren, whom she loved dearly, Beverly Green, Shawn Green (Kelly Bleasdale), Amber Whitehead (Matt West), Shannon (Trevor) Eames and Stefenie Smith; precious great-grandchildren, Oliver Green, Owen West, Elisabeth West and Liam Villanueva; sister-in-law, Shirley Hiltz; and several nieces, nephews and extended family.

 

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Donald Whitehead; and brother, George Hiltz.

 

The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff on Medical B of Valley Regional Hospital and Grand View Manor for the exceptional care that Betty received. Your kindness and compassion will not be forgotten.

 

Cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation by request. The funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 18, 2023 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, followed by a reception. The Rev. Deborah Lonergan-Freake officiating. For those unable to attend, a video webcast will be available at the time of the service. Interment will take place in St. Augustine’s Anglican Church Cemetery, The Forties.

 

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory may be made to the Valley Regional Hospital Foundation, Heart and Stroke Foundation or a charity of choice. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Kentville. (White Family Funeral Home)

 

Note: Betty's obituary says she was WRNS.  It is more likely she served in the RCN or RCN(R).  As it is not known if she was Regular or Reserve - she has been listed as serving as a Wren in the RCN(R).
