In memory of those who have Crossed the Bar
DWYER, Rita Katherine - was born in Toronto, the youngest of eight siblings. She was predeceased by her sisters: Sister Alice Gratia (IBVM), Cecile (Ceal) Annett, Ethel Clarkson, Isabelle Moran, and her brothers: Ray Michael Dwyer, Pvt (WWI), Joseph Dwyer, Lieut, RCNVR (WWII) and Reverend Monsignor Paul Dwyer, pastor of St. Gregory the Great in Oshawa. She is survived by her only nephew, John Annett, his wife Gail, and their children Matthew, Kirsten and Megan Annett. Rita travelled extensively and has friends around the world. Rita graduated from Loretto Abbey, Toronto and Saint Michael's College at the University of Toronto. After working in Cuba, Rita served in the Canadian Navy and then in the Department of External Affairs working with Ambassadors in Argentina, Portugal and Turkey. She returned to Canada and the Navy. A highlight of this tour was her participation in Canada's medical survey expedition to Easter Island. Rita's interests were wide-ranging. She enjoyed skiing, tennis and later lawn bowling. She had a great interest in classical music and art, developed during her years abroad and continued on her return to Canada. Embassy life gave her the opportunity to entertain and she enjoyed her role as a host when Ottawa and Toronto became her homes. Memorial Mass will be celebrated at St. Thomas Aquinas Church, 50 Hoskin Ave., Toronto on Friday, April 1, 2011 at 12:15 p.m. A reception in the adjacent Newman Centre, University of Toronto will follow.
