In memory of those who have Crossed the Bar
FERRAND, Richard Joseph - age 87, of Halifax, NS passed away peaceful on May 16, 2023 at the Veterans Memorial Hospital.
Born in Liverpool, England. He was the son of the late Joseph and Isabella Ferrand. Richard is predeceased by the love of his life, Carolyn Ferrand (Locke). He was predeceased by his sister, Jeanne Davidson.
He is survived by his children, Dennis (Karen), Karen (Paul) and Steven. Grandchildren, Nathan (Jax), Jeffrey (Kimberly), Jennifer (Sandy), Joseph (Lauren), Justin. Great grandchildren, Autumn, Jeffrey, Thomas, and Audrey.
He moved from England to Ontario, Canada, when he was 16 yrs old. He joined the RCA Navy in 1954 and retired in 1984. While stationed in Shelburne, NS, he married his wife after a few short months. The family then moved to Dartmouth, NS where the children were raised. He retired as a CO Petty Officer 1st Class. Richard was extremely proud of the 30 yrs spent with the Navy.
Upon retirement Richard went into the civilian workforce using the skills he gained from the Navy as an engineer. He then retired again and generously gave of his skills to help his friends and families with difficult jobs. He was eager to help those in need with his “jack-of-all-trades” abilities. You knew Richard arrived when his familiar Jeep beeped as he backed into his parking spot.
He was a constant presence in the life of his family, whom he loved dearly, always willing to provide prayers for family meals, beginning with “Heavenly Father.” Richard was a committed follower of Jesus having initially met the Lord through Hillside Wesleyan Church, which he was an active member of.
He will be dearly missed by all those who knew him, and especially his family.
We would like to thank the Veterans Memorial Hospital 5W for their care of Richard in these final months, and the Rock Church. and Atlantic Funeral Home for all their guidance and support. The funeral will be held at the Rock Church on 25 May 2023 at 1pm with reception to follow, 222 Sackville Dr., Lower Sackville. The committal will occur at 11am for immediate family.
