In memory of those who have Crossed the Bar
WATSON, Douglas Eugene (Jeep) - was born September 11, 1932 in Brookfield, NS to Harold and Francis (Creelman). Jeep was the goalie for the Brookfield Elks for several years starting in his late teenage years, helping to win a provincial title during his time with the team with his impenetrable glove and blocker. Jeep joined the navy in the late 40’s and sailed around the world twice and was lucky enough to be present for Queen Elizabeth’s coronation. Over a five-year span, Jeep and his comrades helped protect a variety of nations around the globe on HMCS Iroquois, HMCS Huron and also sailed on the aircraft carrier HMCS Magnificent until he met Norma MacBurnie while on leave back home. They married and settled in Oxford, NS in 1958 raising three boys and a daughter; Peter (Nancy), Oxford, NS; Darryl (Tara) Jacksonville, NB; Keith (Janet) Fredericton, NB; and Lynn (Bernie), Halifax, NS. Visiting with his five grandchildren, Thomas (Kate), Melissa, Trevor, Kiefer and Halle, became a regular occurrence for Jeep over the years. He also was able to meet and watch four great-grandchildren develop their own personalities in Sean, Olivia, Thomas-James and Evelyn. Jeep was lucky enough to find a close friend and companion in Carol Black and her son, Evan. Jeep was predeceased by his loving wife of 37 years and he longed for the day when he would be with her again. He was also predeceased by his parents and brothers, Vernon, Bryan, Eulikem. He has one surviving sister, Janice Crowe, living in Hilden, NS. Jeep worked for CN Rail for over 35 years in Oxford Junction working as a signalman. He enjoyed being outside, whether it was biking, cross country skiing or walking through the woods. Jeep’s family would like to thank everyone at Riverside Court for their daily care and commitment as well as paramedics at Ambulance New Brunswick and staff at Upper River Valley Hospital for their professional care. There will not be any public visitation or funeral service at this time. Interment will take place at Pine Grove Cemetery in Oxford, NS at a later date. (MacDiarmid's Funeral Home and Crematorium)
