BUDD, Douglas Cosham - It is with heavy hearts and deep sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved husband and father, Douglas Cosham Budd.
He is predeceased by parents Marjorie & Leonard Budd, brother Arthur ”Buddy” and nephew Gerald (Shelley).
He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years Norine, daughters Christine and Angela and grandson Phoenix Douglas who was the apple of his eye. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Valeria, nieces Patti, Jennifer (Russ) and cousins Vicki (Sid) and Pat (Bob) and his great nieces and nephews.
Born in Brandon Manitoba on Jan 5th, 1942, Doug spent his childhood growing up in Churchill, MB, Ven SK, Milden, SK and Hamiota, MB where him and Buddy were affectionally known as the ‘Budd Buggers’. At the age of 17, Doug joined the Royal Canadian Navy where he spent years travelling to various ports worldwide and it was during one of his stays in Halifax NS, that he met Norine. After marrying in 1969 and a career change to the Federal public service in 1971, Doug joined The Canadian Diplomatic Technical Security Service division with External Affairs. His time as a Canadian diplomat, saw him working at NATO, and Canadian embassies and consulates around the world with postings in Japan, Poland, Belgium and Australia. His career brought him to well over 50 countries and it was often joked about within the family that he was Canada’s 007.
An avid golfer, Doug enjoyed playing challenging courses including Pinehurst #2. He enjoyed politics, reading, Star Trek and a good rum and coke but the thing he loved the most was his family. Doug was vibrant, intelligent, witty and a wonderful husband, father and friend. His spirit lives on in the hearts of all of who will miss him dearly.
A Funeral Service for Doug will be held Saturday, July 29th at 2:00pm at St. Paul’s Anglican Church in Kanata.
