CADUE, Edward Francis - Halifax. It is with great sadness that the family of Edward Francis Cadue announce the passing of our dear husband, beloved father and grandfather on November 12, 2004, at 80 years of age. He was born August 15, 1924, the youngest of eight brothers and sisters, and was cared for by the Sisters of Notre Dame at St. Mary on the Lake after his mother died during his childbirth. He returned to the family farm on Howe Island, Ont., at the age of 13, where he stayed until he joined the Royal Canadian Navy at 16. He was a veteran of the Second World War and the Korean War. After 27 years service, he retired from the navy in 1968, having received a number of commendations and medals. Ed was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion for 45 years, president of Vimy Branch No. 27 for one term and a member of the Poppy Committee for 38 years, serving as chair several times. He was a life member of the Legion and the recipient of the Meritorious Service Medal with Palm Leaf, the highest Legion honour. In his early years, Ed was a Scout leader and spent several years coaching Halifax minor hockey, minor football and Gorsebrook Little League baseball. In his later years, he became an avid fan of minor basketball, soccer and duck hunting with his son, Michael. His sense of humour, generosity and the twinkle in his eyes will be missed and lovingly remembered by his wife of 57 years, Agnes (O'Connell); daughter, Deborah (John) Piggott; son, Michael (Gwendolyn); and lovely granddaughters, Megan Cadue, Zod, Naomi, and Phoebe Piggott; sisters, Doris Garrett Peterson and Virginia Wakling; sisters-in-law, Kay Dort and Winnie Forward; numerous nieces and a nephew. He was predeceased by his parents, James and Margaret (Lelman) Cadue; brothers, James, Joe, John, Ken; and a sister, Helen. Visitation 2-4, 7-9 p.m. today in J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 2666 Windsor St., Halifax. Funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday in Canadian Martyrs Roman Catholic Church, Inglis Street, Rev. Terrance Walsh officiating. Interment in Fairview Cemetery at a later date. A very special thank you to the family physician, Dr. Frank Lo for his years of exemplary care and compassion. Also a sincere thank you to the doctors and nursing staff on 8.2, New Halifax Infirmary, QEII. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Royal Canadian Legion Poppy Fund, Vimy Branch No. 27.
