In memory of those who have Crossed the Bar
MAWER, William Donald - of Calgary, passed away peacefully in his sleep at the Rockyview General Hospital, on Saturday, November 16, 2002, after a twenty-one year battle with heart disease and surviving cancer, at the age of 76 years. Don was born in Vulcan, AB on October 21, 1926. He was a fireman in the CPR before and after joining the Navy, RCNVR in World War II. He spent active service between Newfoundland and Ireland. Soon after the war, Don joined the RCMP and retired in Winnipeg as a Sgt. Major, in January 1972. Don moved his family to Calgary in 1972, and joined SunLife of Canada, an occupation that he was extremely happy and successful in. Don and Muriel had a beautiful marriage that lasted for fifty-three years, until his passing. Don is survived by his loving wife Muriel; son Bill; daughter Maggie; his three grandchildren, Kylie, Logan and Cassia; his two sisters, Dorothy Luke (and Frank) and Edith Brunet; brother-in-law Hector Fraser; sisters-in-law, Jean Adams (and Mitch), Sheila Pearson (and Harvey), Hughene Schaffer (and Laverne); and many nieces and nephews. We want to thank all the family and friends, ministers, all caregivers, doctors, nurses, EMTs in Alberta and the U.S.A. that have cared for Don over the last twenty-one years. Don touched everyone. He will be missed by all. "If a person is judged by the friends they keep, Don was the luckiest man alive." Funeral Services will be held at Deer Park United Church (77 Deer Point Road S.E.) Wednesday, November 20, 2002 at 2:00 p.m. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to the Calgary Women's Emergency Shelter, P.O.
