SILVESTER, Henry (Harry) - The Rev. Harry Silvester passed away peacefully on June 23, 2013 at the age of 93. He will be missed by his sons Harry (Catherine), Bill (Winnie), Ken (Jokie), Tim (Catherina), 10 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren, his brother Jim, brother-in-law Steve and many nieces, nephews and friends. Harry was born in Edinburgh, Scotland in December 1919 and immigrated to Canada in 1921 with his mother to join his father in Winnipeg. He enlisted in RCNVR in 1936 and was amongst the first called up when war was declared in 1939. He served in the Battle of the Atlantic throughout most of the war and afterwards remained in the RCN until he retired in 1965 as Chief Petty Officer 1st Class. He was ordained in the Anglican Church and served the West Coast Mission in Tofino and Ucluelet before being transferred in 1968 to the combined parishes of Sooke, Port Renfrew and Metchosin. In 1974 his duties were confined to St. Mary the Virgin in Metchosin. He also served as Padre for the Legion and Chief's & P.O.'s Association. He retired again in 1987. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Eleanor, in December 2010. There will be a memorial service for Dad at 1 pm, June 28, 2013, at St. Mary of the Incarnation, 4125 Metchosin Road, Rev. Harry's father, Harry Silvester served in the RN and RCN. His brother Jim Silvester served in the RCNVR and RCN.
