POSHTAR, William (Bill) - It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved father, grandfather and great-grandfather William Poshtar Sr. (Bill) on Tuesday, November 30, 2010. Bill was born in Fort William on August 16, 1924. He joined the Royal Canadian Navy in 1945 - 1947. Bill met and married Ruth Pearl (nee Whalen) in 1950. He worked at various construction sites in and around the city and Bill ended his career working years at Northern Wood. Bill will be remembered for his involvement with minor football, hockey and the baseball community. Bill was a member of the Redskins Football Club and was active in the Thunder Bay Men's Barber Shop Group. After retirement Bill and Ruth enjoyed their camp on Lake Superior and wintering in Arizona. Bill had been a Public Address announcer at the Fort William Gardens for over 40 years.Bill leaves to cherish his memory, son Peter (Karen) of St. Albert, AB (presently here); daughter-in-law Patricia Poshtar of Tomahawk, WI; grandchildren: Paula (Bryan) De Gagne of Fort Frances; Molly (Nick) Amelse of Tomahawk, WI; Margaret Poshtar of Tomahawk, WI; Joel Poshtar of St. Albert, AB; and Jillian (Blake) Taylor of Edmonton, AB; great-grandchildren: Kaitlyn, Chelsey, Evan, Jack, Max, Jenna, Braiden and Ryland. Bill was predeceased by his parents Alec and Katherine Poshtar; wife Ruth; sons: William Jr. and James Patrick.Funeral Services for the late Mr. William Sr. (Bill) Poshtar will be held on Saturday, December 4, 2010 at 3:00 p.m. in Jenkens Funeral Home with Rev. Terry Sawchuk of St. Peters R.C. Church officiating. Services will be completed in the Chapel with a Royal Canadian Legion Tribute, by the Slovak Branch No 129. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens in the Spring of 2011. In lieu of flowers, donations to a charity of your choice would be appreciated."
