In memory of those who have Crossed the Bar
LINDEN, Hugh - It is with sad hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, granddad, and great-granddad Hugh. He will be fondly remembered by the ones he loved deeply for his keen mind, quick wits, and gentle demeanor. Hugh had a passion for reading every book within reach, cooking, traveling, and then afterwards falling into a chair with another book. Hugh had a sense of humor unparalleled to any of his peers, and would do so with great big smile. He possessed a very engaging personality, was patient, non-judgmental and loved to teach and discuss with everyone about everything. We will dearly miss his wonderful history lessons, enchanting discussions and his love of good books. Granddad, uncle, brother-in- law, father and husband, he will always be remembered as a caring and loving (gentle) man. The story begins with the heralding of Hugh's birth in Winnipeg, MB on October 19, 1926 to Hugh and Mabel Linden. Hugh joined the Navy in 1944 and was stationed in Scotland serving on the aircraft carrier HMCS Warrior (R3). After the war he went to University of British Columbia where he met and married the love of his life Margaret Green. Hugh then reenlisted in the air force as an aircraft mechanic in 1954 until he retired in 1968. After his retirement he returned to Calgary to become a Sales Engineer for EC&M. Hugh and Margaret also owned and operated "Deep Sea Fish and Chips" restaurant. When finally retired, He and his wife loved to travel through Europe, Hawaii and most notably driving their RV to Hemet, California. Hugh is lovingly remembered by his wife of 64 years Margaret; father of three children; Kent (Ellen) Linden, Shelley (Dwayne) Elson, Elizabeth (Ernie) Pucci; a proud granddad to 5 grandchildren Leane Elson (Glenn) Murray, whom predeceased her granddad on January 12, 2014, Dayna (Greg) Pimm, Michael (Tammy) Elson, David Elson and Anthony Pucci; he was also blessed with 7 great-grandchildren Andrew, Erin, Gage, Joshua, Zachary, Wyatt and little Isabella. He also leaves behind many loved nieces and nephews. Left to mourn his beloved sisters-in-law Sheila Linden, Elsie Brooks, Grace Green and brother-in-law Dr. Clement Elshout. He was predeceased by his mother Mabel Wyatt; his father Hugh Linden; brothers Robert Linden; sister Yvonne Elshout. The family would like to thank Inglewood Symphony and Aspen Ridge Symphony of Red Deer for their devoted care. We would also like to thank the Red Deer Home Care for their excellent care and help. As per Hugh's request there is to be no funeral (because he never wanted to be fussed over). As an expression of sympathy memorial donations may be made in Hugh's name to the Charity of your own heart.
