James Arthur Mitchell Estey

Died: 22 Sep 2023, Halifax, Nova Scotia

 

ESTEY, James Arthur Mitchell - Age 93, passed away peacefully on his birthday, September 22, 2023, in Camp Hill Veterans’ Memorial Building, Halifax, NS. Born in St. John, NB on September 22, 1930, son of the late Arthur and Eva (nee Mitchell) Estey. After Dartmouth High School he enlisted in the RCN where he served for 33 years. He served on the Magnificent, Bonaventure and HMCS Iroquois, after which he retired. His deployments carried him to a multitude of theatres of operations the world over, which included numerous U.N. and NATO Tours. After he retired from the RCN he worked at the NS Art Gallery as a Commissionaire.

 

Jim took great pride in being a Free Mason and worked hard at his accomplishments to being Master of his Lodge. He was a Past Master of Fairview Lodge #126 AF&AM. In the Eastern Star he was a Past Patron and he was Past Grand Chaplin of the O.E.S. for NS and PEI and was appointed as the Past Grand Rep. to Wyoming USA.

 

In his younger years Jim enjoyed many sports including Basketball, Softball, Football and Snooker and later in life he enjoyed Curling, Golf and officiating his early sports. He enjoyed all music and his main Hobby was Calligraphy. Jim and Shirley enjoyed many winter vacations in Florida.

 

He is survived by his wife, Shirley (MacInnis) Estey; daughters Dawn (Burt), Wanda, and Sherry (Ron) Mason; sons Gregory and Daniel (Carla); step-daughters Donna (Randy) Webb and Cathy (Paul) Smith; Grandchildren and Great-GrandChildren; brothers George and Don (Jackie). He was predeceased by his siblings Joan, Constance, Gerald and Berton.

 

We would like to thank Dr. Ed Kinley, Dr. David Bell, Dr. Claire Nowlan, the nursing team and staff on 6E at the Veterans’ Memorial Building.

 

There will be no visitation as per request. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, October 3rd, 2023 at 2:00 pm at J.A. Snow’s Funeral Home Chapel, 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax. No flowers by request. Family burial immediately following service.
