In memory of those who have Crossed the Bar
PETTY, Roy Stanley - With sadness the family announces the peaceful passing of Roy Stanley Petty on July 24, 2013 in his 91st year, surrounded by his family. He is survived by Shirley, his loving wife of 67 years. Also survived by his three sons, Douglas (Brenda), Cal (Kathy), and Cam (Cindy); and by his grandchildren Holly Higgins (Mike), Daniel Petty and Jillian Petty; his brother Frank (Doris); and his brother-in-law Robert Green (Veronica). Fondly remembered by his nieces and nephews and many friends. Predeceased by his parents Ted and Edith Petty and his brother Ed. Roy was born in Galt, now Cambridge, on August 9th, 1922. It was in Cambridge that Roy worked and raised his family with Shirley after returning from the war where he served in the Canadian Navy on the MTB boats that saw action in the English Channel. Many will recall having their vehicles serviced at Petty's Specialized Service Garage, owned and operated by Roy. A long-time member of First United Church and an active Probus Club member, Roy was a community-minded neighbor and friend to many. The Petty family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to the staff of St. Luke’s Place for the extraordinary care provided to Roy and his family during his final days. The Memorial Service will be held at 12 p.m. (noon) on Sunday, July 28, 2013 at First United Church, 15 Wellington Street, Cambridge. Visitation with the family will take place at the church one hour prior to the service with a reception following. Donations can be made in Roy’s memory to the St. Luke’s Place Foundation.
