In memory of those who have Crossed the Bar
ALAIRE, Pierre-Aimé (Minky) - It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Pierre-Aimé "Minky" Alarie on November 12, 2023, at the Halifax Infirmary.
Pierre was born and raised in St. Justin, Quebec. He left the family farm at age 21 to join the Canadian Forces, where he served on surface ships and submarines for over 32 years. Near the beginning of his naval career, Pierre met the love of his life, Betty. Soon after, he volunteered to be in the submariner service to be closer to Betty on the East Coast. Together, they had two children and more than 47 years of loving marriage. After retiring from the forces, Pierre went on to work as a technologist in the refitting of Victoria Class submarines. Family and friends often sought out his many and varied skills. It was not uncommon to see him sharing his knowledge of carpentry and other trades. Pierre never stopped learning, as he worked to update his knowledge and skills continually.
Pierre was a member of the Submariners Association of Canada, the All-Terrain Vehicle Association and the Musquodoboit Valley Rifle and Revolver Club. He enjoyed target practice and trail riding with his son and friends on his ATVs. But most valued was time spent with family, where he often stressed the importance of good family relations. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, family member and friend who always found time for you and expressed his love through acts of service.
He is survived by his wife, Betty (Weatherby), Son Jason (Jolene), Daughter Michelle (Blair), and Grandchildren, Bailey, Braden and Madison. Brothers Jean-René, Raynald (Lucy), Yves (Martine), along with nephew, Kevin and niece, Mylène.
He is predeceased by his parents, Leo and Aline (Brissette) Alarie and niece, Claudia.
Funeral Service to be held Friday, November 17, 2023, 2 pm at the Regal Heights Baptist Church, 6 Regal Road, Dartmouth, NS, B2W 4Z7. Reception to follow.
The family wishes to sincerely thank the staff and healthcare providers of the Home Dialysis and Cardiac units of the Nova Scotia Health Authority for their cheerful support and care.
The family requests in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Kidney Foundation of Canada (Dartmouth Funeral Home and Crematorium)
