In memory of those who have Crossed the Bar
SCHOLEY, John Reginald (Jack) - age 75, of Dartmouth, NS, passed away in the ICU at the QEII Hospital, November 1, 2023. Born in Montreal, he was the son of the late Reginald and Alice (White) Scholey and is survived by his wife of 50 years, Diane (Cox) Scholey.
Jack spent his early years in Virginia, USA, before moving to Oakville, Ontario where he attended Thomas Blakelock High School. He then joined the Royal Canadian Navy as an ROPT cadet and started his studies at Acadia University, graduating with a BSc in Mathematics. He was commissioned in the Navy in 1970. He undertook various training courses and served in various line and staff positions in Canada and in the UK while on exchange with the British Royal Navy. He attended the Royal Naval College, Greenwich, England before returning to Canada with his family. After retiring from the navy, he worked with the Public Service and later with Irving Shipbuilding in Halifax.
He was predeceased by his brother Ivan, Yokosuka, Japan, and sister Valerie, Digby. He is survived by sons, Nathan, Barrhaven, Mark (Helene), Cole Harbour, and daughter Lucy (Trevor), Wakefield, Quebec; grandchildren, Aiden and Anna, Alice and Robin, Cora and Lela; also, nephews, Robert Chute (Kaori) Japan, and Warren and Tim Cox, Port Williams.
The family wish to extend a special thank you to the wonderful medical staff at the ICU unit in QEII and family and friends who supported Jack this past year.
Jack had a happy and well lived life. We will miss his laughter and great sense of humour.
A public memorial visitation will be held at Atlantic Funeral Home, 771 Main St, Dartmouth, 204 p.m. on November 10th. Cremation has taken place, a private burial at Selma Cemetery will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Jack's memory can be made to a charity of your choice.
