In memory of those who have Crossed the Bar
CROWE, Herbert Douglas - Parksville, B.C., passed away peacefully after a brief struggle with cancer at Nanaimo Regional Hospital, Nanaimo, B.C., on April 4, 1999. He was born in Pictou on May 18, 1918, and resided there until 1995, when he moved to Parksville.
He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He was a son of the late Evan and Josephine (Flaiger) Crowe. He was predeceased by his loving wife, Lavenia M. (Rhodenizer) Crowe, in June, 1995.
Herb was a veteran of the Second World War, having served with the Royal Canadian Navy. He was employed with the Bedford Institute of Oceanography for over 35 years, having sailed on the CSS Acadia, Kapascasing, Hudson and the Baffin. He was a life member of Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 16, Pictou; a member of Eagle Crest Golf Club, Parksville, and a former member of the Pictou Golf Club.
He is survived by daughters, Patricia Hart, Whitehorse; Marilyn Anderson (Don), Kelowna, B.C.; Linda Black (Allan), Amherst; sons, David (Carolyn), Fort Saskatchewan, Alta.; Gary (Donna), Nanoose Bay, B.C.; Allan (Ruth), Moncton, N.B.; Lorne (Tara), Parksville; 16 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by brothers, Roland, Arthur, Sydney, Donald and Jack and sister, Doris. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service was held April 10 at son Gary's in Nanoose Bay. Burial will be held in Seaview Cemetery, Pictou, at a later date. Donations may be made to a charity of one's choice. (The Halifax Herald 12 Apr 1999)
