SOMMERFELD, Samuel Whitney, AB A/AA III, V32952, RCNVR, MPK - 29 Apr 1944, HMCS ATHABASKAN - Son of Herbert Herman Sommerfeld and Mary S. Sommerfeld, of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.
AB Sommerfeld died when his ship, HMCS ATHABASKAN, was torpedoed and sunk in the English Channel on 29 Apr 1944. The province of Saskatchewan honoured Able Seaman Somerfeld by naming Summerfeld Lake in his honour.
