They made the Ultimate Sacrifice
SWEET, Charles Edwin, CPO, 2563, RCN, killed - 29 Apr 1944, HMCS ATHABASKAN - Son of William A. Sweet and Ethel Mary Sweet, of Plymstock, Devon, England; husband of Elsie Sweet.
CPO Sweet died when his ship, HMCS ATHABASKAN, was torpedoed and sunk in the English Channel on 19 Apr 1944. His body was recovered and he was buried in the Plouescat Communal Cemetery, Finistere, France. The province of Manitoba honoured Chief Petty Officer Sweet by naming Sweet Lake in his honour.
