VAIR, James Alexander, L/Stwd, A4980, RCNR, MPK - 29 Apr 1944, HMCS ATHABASKAN - Son of William George and Rhoda Vair, of Owen Sound, Ontario; husband of Norma Elizabeth Vair, of St. Joseph's Island, Ontario.

 

L/Stwd Vair died when his ship, HMCS ATHABASKAN, was torpedoed and sunk in the English Channel on 29 Apr 1944.  The province of Ontario honoured Leading Steward Vair by naming Vair Lake in his honour.
