In memory of those who have Crossed the Bar
Allan Semple's family came from Ayreshire, Scotland, and settled in the Gardenvilla district just northeast of Saskatoon in 1923. Allan joined the Navy in 1934 and was wounded in the sinking of HMCS Fraser in 1940. Invalided home, he died in 1949 at age 34 purportedly of his war wounds. Although Semple's name appears on the Saskatoon Rural honour roll, only deaths occurring before the end of 1947 are considered as war casualties by the Canadian government. (source: "Age Shall Not Weary Them: Saskatchewan Remembers Its War Dead" 2005, Bill Barry p 497).
Allan was a son of William Semple (1879-1964) and Annie Brown (Ballantyne) Semple (1883-1950) and brother of William Semple (1910-1989); Thomas Ballantyne Semple (1912-1979) and David Ballentyne Semple (1919-1985)
