WILKINSON, Horace Edward, L/Stoker, 22129, RCN, MPK - 21 Aug 1944, HMCS ALBERNI - Son of Horace E. and Maude Wilkinson, of Hamilton, Ontario; husband of Audrey M. Wilkinson, of Hamilton.

 

Horace Wilkinson was born on 17 Sep 1911 in Stradford, ON. He joined the Royal Navy on 08 Sep 1936 as a Stoker. At the time of enlistment he was a general labourer and was married to Audrey Marion Wilkinson. They were living at 141 Duke Street, Hamilton, ON. While serving in HMCS ALBERNI, L/Sto Wilkinson requested a transfer to the RCN. He transferred from the RN to the RCN on 16 Aug 1944.

 

Leading Stoker Wilkinson died when his ship, HMCS ALBERNI, was torpedoed and sunk in the English Channel on 21 Aug 1944 by U-480, southeast of the Isle of Wight. Fifty-nine of her ship's company lost their lives.
