MADER, Beaufort Louis (Beau) - Age 90, went to Heaven very peacefully on Monday, January 15, 2024, surrounded by his large family. Beau was born April 06, 1933, to the late Louis and Ann (Firth) Mader in Shelburne, NS. He was dearly loved. Beau is survived by his wife, Athena (Devine) Mader; children, Charlotte Anne (Ben) Carter; Sandra (Ron) Cox; Robert (Susan) Mader; and Kathryn (Kirby) Smith; also, brother, Gary Mader; nine grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; and one great-great granddaughter. Besides his parents, Beau was predeceased by his brother, George; son, Larry; and granddaughter, Holly Spears. Beau served five years in the Royal Canadian Navy, after which he worked mainly in sales until he and Athena purchased G.H. Compton Insurance Agency as their family business until retirement. Beau had many interests and hobbies. He played guitar professionally as a young man, and then for his family throughout his life. He loved sailing, farm animals and pets (He was a founding member of the Mader Family Farm), and winters in Florida. His greatest love was family, and he delighted in hosting family meals, sing-a-longs, and a good game of 45’s. Athena and the family would like to thank the staff of the Veteran’s wing of Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital for their love, compassion, and excellent care over the last year. Visitation will take place from 6-8 p.m., Monday evening in Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main Street, toll free 1-855-825-3448. A service in celebration of his life will take place at 2 p.m., Wednesday, January 24, in Bridgetown Baptist Church, 313 Granville St. East, Bridgetown. Rev. Dr. Steven Hopper officiating, with a reception to follow. Interment will take place at a later date.
