In memory of those who have Crossed the Bar
STEVENS, Cecil R. - Lunenburg - The death occurred of Cecil Randolph Stevens on October 30th in a Toronto hospital after a lingering illness. The late Mr Stevens was born on Tancook Island sixty years ago, the third son of Evelyn and the late Randolph Stevens Sr. In 1920 his parents moved to Second Peninsula and Cecil spent much of his life there. He joined the navy in 1940 as a Chief Petty Officer and served for some time in Halifax and Newfoundland. The remainder of the war years were spent on the 'Prince Henry' along the West Coast and on duty in the Pacific and North Atlantic Oceans. For a number of years after the war, he worked for James Groves in Chester and the U S A. In 1962 he became a partner with his brother Hld in the sail making business of R B Stevens & Sons where he was occupied until his illness. He is survived by his wife, the former Evangeline Emeneau; three sons, Eben of Italy Cross, and Raymond and Wayne in Toronto; and two daughters, Joyce (Don Staples) of Victoria and Rosemary (Mrs Terry Burns) in Truro. An infant son (Norman Wayne Stevens) died during the Second World War. There are seven grandchildren. Also surviving are his mother Mrs Randolph Stevens Sr; four brothers, David, Harold, Wilfred and Randolph, all of Second Peninsula; and three sisters, Inez at Port Medway, Marie (Mrs Neil Harnish) and Mary (Mrs Alfred R Dauphinee), both of Second Peninsula. The funeral service was held at Calvary Temple in Mahone Bay with Rev Lounsbury officiating. Rev Irvine of Dartmouth and Rev Cameron of Lunenburg assisted. Hymns sung were: 'My Jesus I Love', 'Wonderful Peace' and 'I Need Thee Every Hour'. A short but very impressive ceremony was held at the graveside by Branch #23 of the Royal Canadian Legion. One by one the veterans removed the poppies from their own jackets and placed them upon the casket. Pall bearers were: Messrs Donald Staples of Victoria, BC, and Roderick, Franklin and Eric Emeneau, Robert Stevens and Arthur Dauphinee. Interment was at Second Peninsula.
