JACKSON, Harold Ernest - 92, of Halifax and more recently Middleton passed away 11 Apr 2012 at the Veterans Unit, Soldiers Memorial Hospital. Born in Halifax, Halifax Co., he was a son of the late Ira Kenney and Edith Annabell (Gammon) Jackson. He was a Veteran of the Second World War, serving in the Royal Canadian Navy and retiring at the rank of Chief Petty Officer First Class with his last sea posting with HMCS Bonaventure in 1964. He continued his career as a Personnel Officer both at Nova Scotia Power and at the Nova Scotia Civil Service Commission. He will be sadly missed by his best friend and loving wife, Jean, who was always by his side. He enjoyed a good practical joke and one had to watch for that telltale gleam in his eye. Harold loved golf and enjoyed golfing both in Bridgewater and in Florida with his many friends. His other passions were bowling and summers at the family cottage on Fancy Lake. Harold was an active member of St. Paul's United Church in Spryfield for many years. Survived by his wife, Jeanne Shirley (Walker) Jackson; daughter, Lynne (Jim) Eakins of Middleton; son, Peter (Sara) of Dempseys Corner; sisters, Evelyn Olson of Stewart Valley, SK and Sheila Frail of Dartmouth; brother Frank of Fredericton, NB. Also survived by granddaughter Amy Jackson of Halifax; grandsons Cory (Candace) Eakins of Saint John, NB, James (Stacey) Eakins, of Aylmer, QC, Christopher Eakins of Calgary, AB, and Alexander Jackson of Edmonton, AB; great grandsons Caleb, James, Liam and Jake Eakins all of Aylmer, QC. Predeceased by his sisters, Ora Saunders, Violet "Estell" Harris, Florence Bent and Jean Fisk; brothers, Howard and Lawrence. Cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation. A celebration of his life will take place at a later date. Jean, Lynne and Peter would like to thank the staff and volunteers of the Veterans Wing at Soldiers Memorial Hospital for their wonderful support, kindness and the loving care given to Harold.
